Greenwood in talks with Kirsten to take over hot-seat

Peter Kirsten

GREENWOOD Athletic has found their coach to “get them over the line”, according to their chairman, Noel Isaacs.

Our website has reliably learnt that the former Hellenic pro player Peter Kirsten is one of three candidates identified along with Zaheer Simons and Goodwin Lewis to follow up Lionel Miller at the Retreat-based Third Division-outfit.

Miller has without a doubt contributed positively to the growth of Greenwood thus far but unfortunately fell short with two runner-up positions and one fourth place during his spell as head coach.

This prompted the Green Machine’s executive to bring about change as they are desperate to win promotion from Safa Cape Town’s Third Division.

Kirsten’s announcement will be made public in the coming days. This was the  only communication that a rather cagey Isaacs, commented regarding their new coach.

Isaacs was reluctant to reveal their new coach saying they still need to cross the T’s and dot the I’s.

“We feel we need a coach to help us get over the line,” Isaacs stated. “We cannot forget the work and sacrifices of coach Miller. We thank him for his contribution,” Isaacs concluded.

Kirsten, a former pro player for Hellenic and Santos amongst others, was lured from  FC Hout Bay after his sterling work following the departure of his predecessor Bradley August.two seasons ago.

Needless to say that Kirsten, who coached at Crystal Palace and the Hout Bay United Football Community outfit (Second Division – as assistant) restored credibility guiding Hout Bay to a solid mid-table position after they barely saved relegation the previous seasons.

Greenwood will undoubtedly be on the of the teams vying for honours in the Third Division which starts about in October.
