Crowie wants Lentelus to be Maties’ fortress once more

MATIES FC coach Desmond Crowie has stressed that his team is competing in the Safa Cape Town ABC Motsepe League “not just to make up the numbers” – adding that they want to make their Lentulus home base a fortress once again!

The Maties finished a respectable fifth in their Stream (A) last season with some positive results against top opposition.

However, the lack of consistency was one of their shortcomings and Crowie is fully aware of this.

“Our whole purpose is to improve as individuals and as a team,” said Crowie.

“We don’t just want to make up the numbers and be part of the league. We first want to make Lentelus a fortress again whereby we don’t drop any points at home.

“Secondly,  on the road, we did not do as well as we wanted to. We definitely want to improve our away form. How are we going to do that?  We need to be more resilient and have more belief that we can take points in our away games.

“Once we can execute the above I seriously think we will be up there,” Crowie.  added.

With the season weeks away, the former Cape Town All Stars mentor is optimistic that they could challenge for bigger things in the new campaign.

“We have been very consistent in our squad selection over the last 2 seasons and I really think this will stand us in good stead,” Crowie explained.

“We are growing together, not only as a family but also tactically as a squad. I think for every coach it’s always a major success when you see the growth of the individual player on and off the field – holistic development is always key,” Crowie concluded.
