Heideveld Ladies Football Academy to host Women’s Day Festival

Gavin Combrinck, coach of Heideveld Female Football Academy (HFFA) never shies away from any challenge – on or off the field.

This is one characteristic that the has also installed in his team which has been competing in the Sasol Womens League for more than a decade.

The HFFA had to swallow a bitter pill last year when they lost in the Coke Cup final against UCT Ladies. That said, it is still is an indication of how far they have come.

But deep down Combrinck knows all too well and is under no illusion that work needs to be done to turn them into a champion-outfit.

Combrink is also a coach that thrives on playing unknowns opponents outside the Cape borders. He has many a time lead his team in unfamiliar territory and rarely disappoint.

“It’s important to expose your players to different styles, surfaces and conditions,” Combrinck explains. “It forces them to think on their feet and to adapt, you know. It toughens them as well and it helps with team building and spirit.”

Combrinck said with great excitement and enthusiasm that this time round they are not traveling but rather hosting a team from Gqeberha to be part of their Womens Day Festival on Wednesday 9th August in Heideveld.

“Apart from the entertainment and activities, she shall also lace up to take on their team as requested by their coach.,” said Combrinck.

“We have included a u.19 team from PE. This is once again a good test for my players but in front of their home crowd.”
