Raven ready to take ‘Green Machine’ all the way

Nothing but winning the League will be good enough!

This is the message that Greenwood Athletic chairman, Noel Isaacs, has given his new coach Brent Raven (pictured) before the start of the new Third Division season.

Isaacs, after a long deliberation, recently unveiled Raven as the Green Machine’s new coach.

The Greenwood chairman says he is confident the club has found the right coach in the former Lavender Hill mentor to shrug off the proverbial ‘Bridesmaid-tag’.

Greenwood fell short in recent seasons, ending as the runners-up in the Third Division of Safa Cape Town on a few occasions.

Isaacs highlighted Raven’s previous success, a treble winning feat when he bagged the Coke Cup, league title and knockout in Cape Town Tygerberg’s LFA with Rygersdal.

Isaacs is hoping that Raven can emulate his success at the Retreat-based outfit this coming season.

“We have one thing on our mind and that is winning the league,” Isaacs pointed out. “Anything else is simply not good enough. We are tired of ending second. We are starting from scratch, so to speak, and will take it one game at a time,” he added.

Meanwhile Raven has admitted that he is aware of the expectations and pressure that comes with his appointment.
“No for sure, the pressure is on from the get-go and I know it is going to be a tough season,” Raven explained.

“But look, I’m used to working in a pressured environment. I experienced the same thing where I coached previously at Lavender Hill and where I had to prove myself and win over the fans and their trust.

“I watched Greenwood last season and I could see where they fell short. There are minor things that need attention and hopefully can be rectified which will give us a proper fighting chance. You also need a bit of luck to go your way, you know,” Raven concluded.
