DA Councillor Aslam Cassiem (Ward 46) has been inundated with calls for entry and participation for the 2023 edition of the Spar Mookrey Group’s Rygate Cubs Festival.
This festival, which will attract over 7000 participants and spectators, commences on October 3rd and ends with the finals on the 7th at the Johnson Road Sports Complex in Rylands.
It also coincides with the school holidays, which promises to make the holidays a more memorable one for the youngsters and their loved ones.
Approximately 188 teams consisting of 32 under 6’s, 72 under 8’s and 84 under 10’s will test their skills over the five days and for some, it will probably be their first steps to stardom.
This is an aspect that excites Cassiem as it builds dreams and creates hope for positive growth within society.
“This event takes center stage every year and features prominently in our diaries,” Cassiem explains. “It is not only an event for our ward, but the entire Metro and Cape Town converges on the Rygate LFA. It is fantastic to see what this Festival means to our youth. They come here all excited.
“I had calls from some of the teams as well wanting to know if they can still enter or qualify to be participants in this event, so it’s definitely one of those highlights of Ward 46 where we see the entire City of Cape Town come to this facility. I want to thank the organisers and those who make this event possible each and every year.
“I know that it is not something they do overnight. It is something that requires meticulous and very detailed preparation, and I want to commend those who go the lengths and breadths in order to see that this event is made possible. The culmination of this event is after so much hard work and we are looking forward to seeing everyone come and enjoy this event,” Cassiem added.
Meanwhile, the president of Rygate LFA, Abdul Tajoodien, said that he made it his mission to ensure that the 12th edition will be one for the history books.
“I think it is all about the memories and legacy that we leave behind for the children. We are only the vehicle to ensure they are given a fair chance in life and therefore we need to provide them with the necessary platform, you know.
“I can also confirm that we will have the network provider MTN present that will supply free WiFi at the event. It is also our way of moving with the times and making sure that our patrons are well-looked after,” Tajoodien concluded.
