Bosmansdam Primary to host Build-it (Bothasig) Festival

Bosmansdam Primary will play host to the second leg of the Build-it Under-13 Soccer Festival in Bothasig on Saturday (21 October).

The precursor to the event, a coaching clinic for educators, will be held on Friday (20 October) at the school.

This platform allows coaches to broaden their (coaching) skills and to receive some valuable pointers under the tutelage of Safa Cape Town’s technical director and Cape Soccer legend, Boebie Solomons.

“Most of them never attended courses or any formal training regarding soccer coaching,” said Solomons.

“So, this is to give them some ideas about youth development and what it entails. We have found that the educators are highly keen and appreciative as it broadens their horizons and it gives them a different perspective,” Solomons added.

Apart from Solomons, other legends and house-hold names such as Keith America and Stevie Williams will also be in attendance to give back to the young footballing talent.

This Build-it Festival is a prominent junior development program that is rolled out to all nine provinces and has gained widespread recognition among key stakeholders in the South African soccer fraternity.

The initiative was launched in 2006 through a successful partnership between Build-it and the South African Football Association (SAFA).

The festivals are hosted in areas where the Build-it franchises operate and the primary aim of the program is to uplift young individuals in Southern Africa – providing them with opportunities to nurture and develop their talents in the beautiful game. It caters for the girls as well with the netball code.

Needless to say, the program has established itself as a distinguished brand stretching beyond the borders and adopted by neighbours Namibia, and other countries like Mozambique and Swaziland.

The first Festival of the Cape Town-leg was hosted in August by Build-it Cape Gate at the Aristea Primary School in Kraaifontein with Wallacedene Primary School crowned as champions.
