It’s official!
No Bones with Jones can confirm that Saxon Rovers have pulled off the coup of the season with the capture of the former Orlando Pirates and Ajax Cape Town winger, Sameehg Doutie.
Our website reported recently that the 34-year winger has been training with Saxons following his departure from the Second Division outfit Grassy Park United.
News reached No Bones with Jones on Tuesday evening that Doutie has officially been registered and will in all likelihood make his debut on Saturday at the Royal Road Sportsfield when they host Wanderers FC in a Hollywoodbets Third Division encounter.
Doutie, a former national under-23 player, becomes the second signing for Arendse after they acquired the services of Doutie’s former teammate at Grassy Park, Waleed Krotz.
Saxons coach Zahir Arendse said recently that Doutie was impressed with the set-up at Saxons with the club having its own (home) field and clubhouse.
It is believed that Doutie’s former Ajax teammate Granwald Scott might have also played a role in convincing Doutie to put pen to paper.
These signings are clear indications that Saxons mean business despite Arendse proclaiming that he is under no pressure to win the league.
The fact of the matter is that Arendse is driven by success after he won a treble with Woodlands a couple of seasons ago – so he has a reputation to uphold.
Saxons lost 2-4 to Cape Town City at Malta Park on Tuesday evening. Despite this slip-up, Saxons are still solidly placed in the fourth position – four points behind the unbeaten log leaders Vasco da Gama.
Meanwhile Lionel Miller got off to a winning start when Greenwood Athletic beat Jomos Power 1-0 at the Solo Street astroturf for only their second win of the season.
