‘Weit(z)’a Minute! – Isn’t it time Safa CT ‘Met’ its match in Wayne saga?

One is rather hopeful that the Metropolitan LFA show some loyalty and rally behind its beleaguered president and Treasurer of Safa Cape Town, Wayne Weitz.

Weitz has been the talk of the town of late after the Cape’s football Mother body placed him on “precautionary suspension” last week following a thorough preliminary review conducted by a Committee led by the Chair of the Finance Committee, Ms Siviwe Tyali on 27 June 2024 into “alleged breaches.”

No Bones with Jones has reached out to the Metropolitan’s Vice Chairman Lindsay Davids for his view on the matter but without any luck.

Our website has however reliably been informed that the Met is cautious and weighing up its options – probably still trying to make sense of how things unravelled so quickly.

“Look we acknowledged the fact that Safa CT sent out a statement and we wanted to know if that was the official communication,” said a member of the executive. “I guess maybe we expected a bit too much from the powers that be in terms of courtesy and their communication. Perhaps some notification to the LFA or the club prior to their statement would have probably been the decent thing to do here as you don’t operate like that,” the source added.

The jury has been out on Weitz who seemed to have sympathy for the former player and executive member of Sea Point Swifts who has really given his all for football in Bonteheuwel over the last four decades or so.

Yes, it is no secret that Weitz is not everyone’s favourite, but his contribution to amateur football in Cape Town cannot be questioned.

Not to mention that this comrade was in the proverbial trenches during the fight for freedom and justice during the dark and turbulent times of apartheid.”

However, not even Weitz, who has seen it all, could have predicted the irony as to how his reputation and time in the amateur scene has now been tarnished.

And to those who proclaim that Weitz is their leader, now is the time to stand in solidarity with him.
