Football never ceases to amaze…
In a shocking twist of events No Bones with Jones can confirm that the well-respected coach Desmond Crowie (pictured) has signed another year at the Maties FC to extend his tenure for an eighth season with the students.
This comes after the former Cape Town All Stars coach was bound for a move to Second Division rivals Antalyaspor JPM CT following the departure of Dylan Deane – but this is clearly not the case.
Crowie confirmed his rather surprising stay with the Maties to our website, hinting he has unfinished business in the Cape Winelands.
“We have a big USSA tournament in December in Bloemfontein and that is just the start of it,” Crowie told No Bones with Jones. “We have18 weeks to USSA, 72 training sessions,32 gym sessions, six Sports Psychology sessions, four Nedbank games and four ABC League games. So, it’s exciting times ahead,” he added.
Crowie has since his appointment achieved his mandate every year in terms of the development and growth of the student/athletes – hence his services are retained.
It is clear that Crowie, who is also waiting patiently to enrol for his CAF A-Licence badges, is still harbouring big aspirations for the Maties to further stamp their authority in Varsity football.
“Most of our current squad for the 2024/’25 season will be students to prepare us properly to assist us to qualify for Varsity Sport in 2025. The top eight Universities qualify automatically for Varsity Sport and we hope to be the first SU football team to play in the Varsity Sport competition,” Crowie concluded.
