Grass not always greener on other side, barks Junction’s skipper

Exactly a season ago Junction Rovers skipper Adeeb Triegaardt was lambasted for seeking greener pastures at the now-defunct Ikapa Sporting.

Triegaardt wanted a new challenge and of course monetary incentives too, but this did not go according to plan.

This subsequently ‘forced’ ‘Pro’, as Triegaardt is known, to return to Heideveld where he played out the remainder of the season at Junction ensuring that the club retained its ABC Motsepe League-status after making their debut last season.

The 27-year-old Triegaardt has now offered some advice to players who think that the grass is greener on the other side.

“I can testify that it is not always the case and as rosy as people think it is,” Triegaardt pointed out to No Bones with Jones. “People promise you stuff and nothing like that happens, you know. But that is how one grows in life and how you learn.

“For what it’s worth, players must think long and hard before making such a big decision as it will definitely impact their careers, good or bad, you know,”” he added.

Junction kick-off their campaign with a tough first round draw of the Nedbank Cup Prelims against the defending league champion FN Rangers.

Triegaardt feels that their squad is now better prepared to further ruffle the feathers in the Second Division.

“You are familiar with our saying of ‘ons gee nie krag weg’ (don’t give away power) and I think we have stayed very true to that. We just need to build on last season and who knows we might even taste success – but we are ready for the season,” Triegaardt added.
