Miller says “The Green Machine’s” leaky defence needs some oil

Greenwood Athletic head coach Lionel Miller has indicated that he is satisfied with the proceedings thus far in the Hollywoodbets Third Division, however, there is still plenty of work to be done – like a leaky defence that needs tightening up if they were to be considered as real contenders.

Out of their eight matches thus far, Greenwood has won four, drawn one and lost three, scoring 17 goals and conceding 12 in the process and occupying the fifth position currently.

“Stats don’t lie they say,” Miller told No Bones with Jones. “You must understand we have some young and inexperienced players in our team and one can expect mistakes to happen. I think going forward we have to be fully focussed and concentrated until the final whistle,” Miller added.

The Green Machine, as Greenwood is called, resume their third division campaign this weekend following the festive break with an away trip to struggling Saxon Rovers’ Royal Road in Maitland on Friday evening (19:30).

Miller refuted claims that this is the ideal time to play coach Zahir Arendse’s Saxons who themselves have lost some key players and are currently bleeding some young talent for the future.

“The league is so unpredictable that you cannot take any fixture for granted,” Miller further warned.
“Therefore we will still give them the necessary respect as well and control what we can and focus on our strengths, you know,” Miller concluded.
