Stellenbosch FC’s CEO Rob Benadie (pictured) has confirmed they have put in an offer for UCT Ladies’ Hollywood Bets Super League status and are now awaiting ratification by the custodians of football.
No Bones with Jones reported last week that a takeover move by Stellies was on the cards and Benadie has now acknowledged their intent when he revealed the matter is sitting with Safa at the moment, following recent talks with the UCT Ladies hierarchy.
“That is 100 percent what is going on at the moment,” Benadie informed No Bones with Jones. “So, we do want to get a team in the Hollywoodbets… I must add it is very unfortunate what happened last season when we went to the playoffs and weren’t allowed to play, and that was out of our control, you know.
“UCT has made a decision that they do not want to be in the Hollywoodbets anymore but focus on student football rather, and we thought it would be a waste if we lose another franchise from the Western Cape.
“So, based on that, we’ve put in an offer and it’s sitting with Safa CT at the moment and it has to be endorsed and everything by them,” Benadie concluded.
We only have UWC Ladies playing in the top league – and that’s not really fair on the female players.
