Bennett unanimously re-elected as president of Safa CT for third term, Reyaad unopposed as General Secretary

And so the Safa Cape Town delegates have spoken…

Needless to say, no surprises here after Bennett Bailey (pictured left) has been re-elected for a third term as president of the region by a unanimous 49 to 14 votes against his rival, Eric Gum.

It must be noted that proceedings were a bit raucous when proceedings started after Langa-Ndabeni LFA objected to the elections going ahead as they felt there were some unresolved issues and requested for a postponement of the elections.

This was made on the basis of article 13 of the Safa Cape Town electoral code which clearly stipulates that the final list of candidates should be sent to members 14 days before elections  – and this hasn’t happened after the region apparently withheld information of Gum being on the ballot papers, to its members.

Now, one wonders if the status quo would have remained intact had more senior and experienced members served on the electoral committee like Adv. Rod Solomons and Beresford Williams had served on the panel?

Meanwhile, Linda Pistoli from the Strand LFA and Cape Town Tygerberg LFA’s Andrew Bothman have been re-elected as vice-presidents along with Nomomde Ndyoko from the Makaza LFA. Pistoli (50 votes), Bothman (36) and Gum missed out again with 25 votes.

So, too was the Northern Suburbs LFA’s Reyaad Joseph (pictured right) re-elected at the general secretary after he was unopposed.

The vacant treasurer position left by Wayne Weitz was hotly contested between Greater Athlone LFA’s Marwaan Van Reenen and Sadick Williams of the Mitchells Plain LFA.

The latter won by a big 47 to 16 and will now officially be in charge of the money matters after serving as an interim in this position.
