Curtley Daniels’ departure to Rygersdal FC was probably the worst kept secret – but that’s an inside joke!
Nevertheless, it is indeed a very credible one after the departure of the highly esteemed Ashraf Calvert who is now calling the shots at Seaside Spurs in the ABC Motsepe League.
Daniels’ impressive showing with Ashford last season where he guided them to a fourth position, also didn’t go noticed by the region and he subsequently was tasked to lead the Safa CT Academy side at the recent Engen Knockout Challenge.
Similarly, Rygersdal also got the tongues wagging with impressive performances of their own during the debut season – especially with the young talent coming through the ranks which was a hallmark of their season as well.
One would expect Daniels will be ready to embrace this challenge at a club with a rich footballing history and where expectations are high. But if there was ever a coach to embrace a challenge like this with great vigour and optimism, then it’s the successful Daniels who knows a thing or two about working with the young talent.
Daniels steered Grassy Park United to a maiden Bayhill Premier Cup title three years ago and has just grown in leaps and bounds as an up and coming coach.
Not to mention the fact that Daniels will be paired up with the veteran striker Danian Warely who has been a revelation at Rygersdal since he left Ashford midway through last season where he played under Daniels.
Now, this duo is reunited again after they spent time together at Ashford last season – one expects that Wareley will feature more prominently in Daniels plans for the new season.
Needless to say, Wareley has adjusted nicely – on and off the field. His contribution of 14 goals (3 for Ashford and 11 for Rygers) plus six assists last season is testament to the value he can still add.
