Young Bafana FC head coach Rezaan Jacobs has adopted a quite interesting approach with his ABC Motsepe League outfit and thus far, it is very effective and working wonders!
“We have adopted the mindset that we are in a relegation battle, treating every single fixture as a must-win game where we fight for our lives,” revealed to No Bones with Jones. “This is the mindset that will continue driving us toward our objectives and getting this club to where we want to be,” the Young Bafana mentor added.
The former champion (2023) is currently unbeaten after three games following two back-to-back away victories against Seaside Spurs (2-1) and Harambee (3-1) last week while they drew their opening game (1-1) against Inter City FC.
The Strand-based outfit has moved up to the third position in stream A and plays second fiddle only (or third in this instance) to log leaders, Hanover Park FC followed by second placed FN Rangers who are also unbeaten thus far. Cape Town Spurs, who currently sits in ninth position, is the other side who have not lost a game but have played a game less than their rivals in Stream A.
Jacobs, who has won the Coke Cup with Bayview (2018) and the Bayhill Premier Cup with Grassy Park (2023), has nothing but high praise for his players and staff on securing their second consecutive victory on the road last night against Ashraf Calvert’s Spurs.
Jacobs emphasized that overturning a deficit away from home to win 2-1 shows the immense resilience present within Young Bafana Football Club.
“However, I must be clear: this is all Allah’s (God) work, not mine. All glory belongs to Allah for guiding us to this result,” Jacobs reminded. “Yes, we will enjoy this victory for today because the team worked incredibly hard this past week to achieve it. But come Monday, we are back to work and our focus turns entirely to the next game.
“Although we remain undefeated from our first three games, we are fully aware that there is still a very long way to go. We must remain completely grounded and humble,” Jacobs concluded.
Next up for “YB” is a home fixture against Saxon Rovers.
