For many players, returning to a former club is an emotional experience.
For former Chippa United goalkeeper Tashrique Goldman, his return to Hanover Park FC, eight years after stepping away from the game, represents far more than a homecoming. It signals the start of a new chapter as he looks to transfer his knowledge and experience to the next generation of goalkeepers.
Goldman, who enjoyed a successful playing career that included spells with PSL side Chippa United and Milano United, has returned to Hanover Park FC as the club’s goalkeeper coach.
The appointment has been warmly received by the club, where he is regarded as one of the area’s football success stories.
Having experienced the demands of professional football, Goldman brings a wealth of expertise to the technical team.
His journey from community football to the professional ranks serves as inspiration for many of the club’s aspiring players, particularly the goalkeepers now under his guidance.
According to Goldman, the opportunity to return to Hanover Park was one he could not turn down.
“Hanover Park has always held a special place in my heart,” he told No Bones with Jones. “A lot of my football journey started here and it’s a privilege to come back and contribute to the development of young players.
“I must add that the landscape has changed a lot, especially in the lower leagues, but it’s something I’ve embraced. One can already see the rivalries and how competitive the teams are. Some clubs invest heavily to secure promotion, so that is quite interesting,” he added.
Goldman’s focus is not only on improving technical ability but also on preparing goalkeepers mentally for the unique challenges that come with the position.
“Being a goalkeeper is about much more than making saves,” Goldman explained. “It’s about leadership, communication, discipline and being able to deal with pressure.
“Goalies are the last line of defence and must be commanding, you know. “Those are some of the lessons I want to share with the youngsters.”
Club owner Riedwaan Anthony believes Goldman’s appointment will play a significant role in strengthening Hanover Park’s development structures.
In addition to Goldman’s technical expertise, he brings valuable insight gained from competing at a higher level of the game.
“At Hanover Park, we believe in giving people an opportunity. Sometimes you have to see the talent before the achievements come,” Anthony stated. “That’s been our philosophy, and we’re going to continue backing people we believe can grow, contribute and make a difference at our club.”
Players have already started benefiting from “Tassie’s” experience, with training sessions placing a strong emphasis on positioning, decision-making and professionalism, qualities that helped Goldman establish himself during his playing career.
His return also underlines Hanover Park FC’s commitment to investing in former players and local football figures who understand the club’s culture and vision.
Goldman, who also serves as assistant coach to head coach Bradley Barnes, has made an immediate impact. Under his guidance, Hanover Park’s goalkeepers have conceded just one goal in three matches, helping the side maintain a near-perfect record and rise to the top of the league standings.
As Hanover Park continues to develop talent and challenge for honours, Goldman hopes his contribution will help produce the next generation of goalkeepers capable of achieving even greater success.
