The latest round of ABC Motsepe League action produced plenty of talking points, with Ubuntu FC and Hanover Park FC emerging as the weekend’s biggest winners.
Ubuntu followed up their impressive 3-0 away victory over Ikapa Sporting with another commanding display, brushing aside Seaside Spurs 3-0 at the Ocean View Sports Complex on Friday. The result underlined Ubuntu’s growing credentials as a serious contender as they continue to build momentum in Stream A as they approach they halfway stage of the campaign.
Hanover Park FC, meanwhile, delivered the performance of the weekend, thrashing Saxon Rovers 6-2 at Downberg Road in a goal fest that further enhanced their reputation as one of the league’s most exciting attacking teams.
Elsewhere, Hout Bay United FC secured a valuable 1-0 away win over Harambee FC in Malmesbury, while there was little to separate log leaders FN Rangers and Cape Town Spurs, who battled to a goalless draw at Royal Road Sports Field on Saturday.
The clash between Santos FC and Inter City also failed to produce a breakthrough, with the two sides sharing the spoils in a 0-0 stalemate in Thornton.
Perhaps the biggest surprise came at Solo Street, where Young Bafana stunned Ikapa Sporting with a convincing 3-0 victory. The defeat compounded a difficult week for Ikapa following the unexplained absence of head coach Zane Ryklief from the touchline, adding to the growing questions surrounding the club.
Meanwhile, Ubuntu’s back-to-back 3-0 victories have sent a clear warning to the rest of the league, while Hanover Park’s six-goal demolition of Saxons ensured they keep the pressure on the pacesetter, FN Rangers. The margins are becoming tighter, and every point is beginning to carry championship significance.
