It is with great excitement and optimism that I am introducing my new website “No bones with Jones” dedicated to promoting amateur and grassroots football.
A platform where local soccer clubs, coaches and players can get the necessary exposure, respect and recognition for their sacrifices and hard work.
A platform where football followers past, present and future can indulge in local content that is fresh and unique.
A platform where the Cape’s football legends – who have paved the way for the current generation – can have a voice and an opinion. Our legends should be honoured whilst they are alive, not dead. These stars of yesteryear possess a wealth of knowledge and understanding of the beautiful game.
I was preached at many times when I was a youngster: “Wat djy nou try, het ek kla gedoen!” (Whatever you are trying to do, I did it”) The moral of the story is, keep quiet and learn.
That said, I could faff on and on about the how kwai this site will be and how many likes it will get. Truth be told It’s about the content and subjects I’ll be featuring – giving them a platform to shine and achieve their goals.
I see myself as just a vehicle for football – connecting the fans with their coaches, players and clubs. Keeping them abreast of what is happening and what is not happening that should be happening, you know!
I guess this stuck on me due to the influence from the late legendary Cape football writer, Lennie Kleintjies. I was extremely lucky to have had the opportunity to hang around Uncle Lennie in his latter part of his illustrious journalism career.
Mr Kleintjies didn’t just put players like Duncan Crowie and many others on the map with the might of his pen and insight of the game, he always strived to promote the game in a positive and respectful manner.
Ever since, this is something that’s manifested in me. I have always ensured that I maintained his legacy, along other greats such as Rodney Reiners and the late Joe Pillay by contributing to the development and growth of Cape football.
Regards
