It is not about the Playoffs… it is a matter of principle!
So says Stephanus Pheiffers, manager of Barcelona FC from Beaufort West, who are currently embroiled in a legal battle with Ubuntu Spartans FC.
The case is now heading into “round two” of the legal battle and is in motion after Barcelona contested the outcome of Central Karoo LFA’s decision to rule in favour of the latter.
The ‘winner’ of this case will represent the Central Karoo LFA at the Hollywoodbets Third Division Playoffs next week in Plettenberg Bay, but there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel after both clubs indicated that they are not backing down and going for the jugular.
“Let me just make it clear – it is not about a spot in the Playoffs, finish en klaar. We have been there, done that and wore the T-shirts several years ago – win or lose,” Stephanus Pheiffers, manager of Barcelona told No Bones with Jones.
“For us, it has to do with reporting bad conduct and not to turn a blind eye. So, there are processes that can be followed after the 90 minutes of a match and that is what we are doing. Even if it means we have to seek a higher power,” Pheiffers added.
Meanwhile, his counterpart from Spartans Erbano Moly believes they have been let down by the powers that be.
“Firstly, they (Barcelona) never had a strong case,” Moly explained to No Bones with Jones. “I feel that we are being bullied because certain people are running the show. No one can give us answers therefore we send our correspondence directly to the province and copy them in,” said Moly.
Molly stated that should the outcome of the case not turn out in their favour then they will still pursue the matter.
“Then we are going to Safa House,” Moly further added. “That is what will happen as we will not let it lie down.”
Judging by these sentiments it appears that Safa Western Cape is sitting with a conundrum with only nine days left before the playoffs. The Province’s Deputy Chairman Chris Tyhawana has also confirmed that they have received the letter.
“Yes, we have,” Tyhawana told No Bones with Jones.
This comes a day after the Province announced that playoffs are on track despite the dispute between the two outfits from the Central-Karoo.
