Bradley August stated that his return to his beloved and newly promoted Third Division Crystal Palace, “just made sense.”
The former Bafana Bafana player confirmed that he will be on the touchline assisting Palace’s head coach Goodwin Lewis for the upcoming Hollywoodbets Third Division campaign.
August was released by the ABC Motsepe-outfit Hout Bay United Football Community last month along with head coach Ryan Botha and has been out of action since then.
August who previous coached at Vasco da Gama and Glendene United is off course no stranger to Palace guiding them to promotion from the Third Division to the Second Division back in 2013.
Between himself and Lewis that have mustered three promotion titles making them club’s two most successful coaches. This is an indication that the Manenberg based-out could potentially be considered as serious contenders and should not be taken lightly.
Despite the duo’s impressive record August has emphasized that he will not make ridiculous claims about winning the league as such.
“It will require a lot of hard work and planning,” August told No Bones with Jones. “You will need a good structure coupled with good coaching. Look everybody want to ‘win’ the league early in the season but we want to be realistic on how we want to achieve our goals.
“Bear in mind we just won promotion to the Third Division and to stake claim on the league title it is not that easy. But we will definitely be competitive as can be.
“We want to be a hard team to beat in Manenberg and that is what I will tell you. It will be a tough place to come to pick up a result,” he added.
August highlighted that this project is not only about the Palace as a club but the broader Manenebrg community as well.
“Our (Unders) have no Third Division experience but they all come from Maneberg and it is important that your community can identify and relate to that club,” said ‘Plat’ as he is affectionately known. “They have shown hunger and desire and we can definitely work with that. It will be tough but we can build something four this community as we have some fantastic talent to compete,” August concluded.
