YMO St. Lukes’ head coach Franklyn Davies says he is confident that the current Hollywoodbets Third Division top goal scorer Rushin Abrahams will thrive in his role as leader of the squad.
Tollie, as Davies is known, even went as far as saying that he expects Abrahams to possibly break his record of 40-plus goals in his debut season for Silver Spurs last season.
According to Davies, who also worked with Abrahams at Spurs during the beginning of last season, the latter started off rather slow for Spurs and only scored his first goal after four matches in the previous campaign.
“And now he’s already scored three in all competitions and the season barely started,” Davies said to No Bones with Jones. “I think it is because he relishes the captaincy role and the responsibility he has been given. He sets high standards for himself and this rubs off on others, you know. So, don’t be surprised if Rushin breaks his own record.”
Davies’ comments comes after the 30-year-old Abrahams netted his first league goal during an impressive 4-2 debut win against Camps Bay FC at their Meadway base last weekend.
“Ja, what a performance once again with Rushin Abrahams leading from the front and registering his third goal for us as our captain,” Davies added.
“Then three of our Unders also got on the scoresheet, a 17-year-old centre back scoring with the header in the first five minutes, followed by another header from Rushin while Tahir Domingo hit a brilliant free kick. Then another under Devon Van Wyk came on and scored a cracker of a goal from outside the box, so all in all I’m happy but we must not get overly excited,” Davies concluded.
YMO will again be on the road this weekend when they travel to Uitsig to face Trinitarians who drew (2-2) their opening round match against another newcomer in Clover FC.
