Junction Rovers has extended their unbeaten run in the ABC Motsepe League to four matches and their coach Chrissando De Weber says they are not getting carried away with their recent good form.
The Second Division newbies defeated another newcomer, Ukhanya United (Eagles Performance Academy), by 3-2 at the Heideveld Sportsfield over the weekend to climb up to a respectable third position with 10 points from six matches their stream (A).
Junction has now bagged 10 points from their previous four matches scoring 11 goals and conceding seven in the process.
After a nervy and slow start (two losses), it is safe to say that De Weber’s outfit has found their feet and is getting to grips with the demands of the Motsepe League.
De Weber emphasized that they will not get carried away and lose focus of their objective which is to retain their status for next season.
“Things can change very quickly, therefore we have to stay humble and grounded in our approach and take it game by game.,” De Weber pointed out. “Yes, we are having a good run but our objective remains to stay in the league next season.
“I think the players are now picking the fruit for their sacrifices and efforts during the Festive break as they have put in a lot of work. The return of our former players who left for Ikapa has also helped to make us more competitive, you know.”
Not to take anything away from Junctions’ performances thus far, it should be comforting to know that there are two teams, Ukhanya United and Royal Blues – who are struggling in the League and are the real relegation candidates.
Ukhanya has only collected one point from five matches while Blues are still searching for their first win after six games.
De Weber stated that they are not looking elsewhere or expecting any favours as their fate is in their own hands.
“We run our race and control our own destiny,” the former Cape Town Spurs pro player concluded.
De Weber and his troops must brace themselves for a sterner test when they travel to Thornton on Friday to face Santos, who is coached by one of Heideveld’s finest coaches in Roger Fortune.
