Dearnaley’s Magic Ladies brace for baptism of fire in Engen KO Challenge

Coach George Dearnaley knows all too well that his Magic Ladies outfit will have their work cut out for them at the 21st edition of the Engen Knockout Challenge that kicks off in Langa on Friday.

It is largely because The Magic, one of the debutants, is drawn in the proverbial group (B) of death along with the defending champion Cape Town Roses, former champion  RV United (2021) and the University of The Western Cape (UWC).

Magic will surely face a baptism of fire when they start off their campaign against the mighty Roses.

“This will surely be a good test for our girls without a doubt,” Dearnaley conceded.

“It should be a good experience for the 13 and 14-year-olds we have in the squad. Overall I feel the group is strong enough to compete,” Dearnaley concluded.

Gordon Crumpton, one of the tournament’s LOC members and assistant HOD of Safa CT, has indicated that they are all set and ready for action.

“To be quite honest the tournament’s prestige has definitely shot up over the previous years and become very competitive,” said Crumpton.

“It’s really difficult to say who will be the outright winners. I wish all the players and clubs all of the best,”
