Diadora’s Lethal Weapons blasting fear into Third Division rivals

The Hollywoodbets Third Division debutant Diadora FC is “surprisingly” flexing its muscles and setting the early pace – in fine style one must add.

Despite it being very early days…. One is tempted to say that they might even run away with the league given their blistering start to the season leading the pack with 10 points from a possible 12.

The Hanover Park-based club, coached by former Santos player Zain Abrahams and his assistant Sardick Barends, has shown its potency in front of goal and has already scored 17 league goals and conceded only five after just four games which are ominous signs for their opponents.

Not to mention the seven goals they scored in the Nedbank Cup before they were eliminated by Silver Spurs.

The culprits banging in the goals and doing the damage are the experienced campaigners Siya Madikane who already has nine league goals supported by Emeraan Rayners who has two goals – both from the bench.

According to Abrahams, who hit the ground running as new coach of Diadora, there is certainly no magic formula, just hard work and dedication on the training ground.

“There is a lot of emphasis placed on finishing and the hard work is now paying off,” Abrahams stated to No Bones with Jones. “Look, for me coming in as a new coach it was difficult to start with, you know with the philosophy and the style.

“I think most of the players had an idea of the way I operate and my style and it made it easier for them to buy into that. But one thing I emphasise religiously is to be lethal in front of goal. Kill teams off as quickly as possible. This is one approach that we try to implement in every game.

“So, I think the process of the players buying into everything didn’t take too long which is surprising for any coach coming in  – but also a good thing. But it’s still very early days and there is a long way to go. So, where will just take it one game at a time,” Abrahams concluded.

Diadora was scheduled to host Greenwood this weekend in Gugulethu but this humdinger has been moved to Tuesday due to the latter’s cup commitments.
