Silver Spurs FC striker Rushan Abrahams (pictured) is following in the footsteps of his predecessor Ameen Awaldien as the most prolific striker in the Hollywoodbets Third Division.
Abrahams is leading the top striker chart with 11 goals after nine games followed by Matroosfontein’s Tauric Gamildien (seven) and Feni Somila from Cape Town City with five goals.
Should Abrahams continue his plus one goal per game game scoring record, then he could possibly set a new record which is currently held by Darron Omaticus with 36 goals for a season consisting of 38 games.
Abrahams has already bagged his first hat trick for Spurs during their 5-0 drubbing of Ocean View – and if there’s any concerns of Awaldien’s boots being filled, well, Abrahams has definitely raised his hand with his eye for goals.
So too is Matroos’ Gamildien showing the same goal prowess of Awaldien’s main rival Darron Omaticus possessed which made it two horse race for the previous six seasons between Awaldien and Omaticus for the top strike award.
Similarly, football fans can expect that a newer generation and different breed of goal poachers like Abrahams and Gamildien are taking up the challenge.
Needless to say, the top three strikers of Abrahams, Gamildien and Feni will have ample time to battle it out when the league resumes in two weeks time.
Lets see who will add their names to the list of top marksmen in the Third Division.
Meanwhile, coach Byron Cottle’s City (20 points) is leading the charge along with Vasco da Gama (19) and Crystal Palace (18) in second and third place respectively.
Coach Patrick Weels’ Matroosfontein (17) completes the top-four and is rolling along relatively smoothly in the Third Division thanks to their exciting young talent.
City got a reality check during their last two games of 2023 narrowly edging out Palace (2-1) and losing to Woodlands United (0-2).
