Gwappie’s MEGA-success dedicated to Everton’s fallen stalwarts and legends

Everton United’s young and progressive coach, Gwappie Esau (pictured), has surely delivered on his promise to return the glory days at the club by winning promotion to Safa Cape Town’s Third Division.

Esau ended Everton’s success-drought at the playoffs over the weekend in Nyanga when he got the better of PSV Quemic in their semi-final to qualify for Safa CT’s most senior league competition for next season, along with Vasco da Gama.

In doing so, Esau is also honouring the club’s fallen legends, such as Job Pietersen and Charlie Jongbloed amongst others, who would have been really proud and ecstatic about what Esau and his troops achieved.

Esau pointed out that he is satisfied that he can keep alive the legacy of these stalwarts.

“This year our vision at the club is MEGA (Making Everton Great Again) in honour of our Legends. It’s exactly what we’ve achieved. Uncle Job and his team were brilliant in their era and so was Uncle Charlie. We know they are smiling down from heaven,” Esau added.

Esau was also quick to acknowledge the support from the club’s hierarchy and broader LFA.

“Credit goes to our amazing exco and our visionary President Mr Rodney Sauls, for supporting me and the technical team through thick and thin,” Esau, aka ‘Baksteen Boy’ stated. “On a club level, we didn’t really have much of a challenge as our executive was brilliant in supporting the goals that we set for ourselves.”

What Esau’s success does not depict is the daunting challenges he had to overcome to get to this point, where he has created more history with the club.

“As you know we have to share the fields with other clubs as well, and as a coach, you couldn’t always do the exercises you wanted to,” Gwappie further added.

“Let’s not even talk about the gang violence and daily shootings which have plagued the area at some stage during the season. Therefore, my players also deserve praise as they have done themselves proud and embody everything of the club,” Esau concluded.
