Members of Cape District Football Association (CDFA) violated the Safa Cape Town constitution and forced the Mother Body to exert its powers by suspending the LFA’s ‘secretary’ Nathan Less (pictured).
Safa released a statement recently whereby they confirmed that they received a letter dated 24 January 2024 signed by Mr Nathan Less.
“This letter comes in the wake of SAFA Cape Town logged in a disciplinary committee meeting whereby Cape District was charged and found guilty of hosting an illegal Annual General Meeting. Cape District acknowledged the illegal act,” the statement reads.
“SAFA Cape Town in a letter dated 23 January 2024 advised as to how the situation would unfold in trying to find common ground on the way forward. It therefore stands to reason that NO legal elections took place.
“It is now worrisome that Mr Nathan Less is acting as the Secretary of Cape District and is now convening meetings on behalf of Cape District. Mr Less has no legal standing to convene meetings on behalf of Cape District Football Association. Mr Less’ actions are in direct violation of the findings of the SAFA Cape Town disciplinary committee.
“Mr Less is therefore placed under immediate suspension for bringing the Association into disrepute. A date for the hearing will be scheduled soonest. Any individual or club attending the meeting called by Mr Less will be dealt with in accordance with the rules, regulations and relevant statutes of SAFA Cape Town, SAFA National and FIFA,” the statement concluded.
Meanwhile, one of the CDFA’s affiliate clubs Spenston AFC has taken a stance in light of the recent events at the LFA and decided not to attend the Special General Meeting on 31 of January 2024.
“We urge the executive of Cape District to resolve this matter with SAFA Cape Town as soon as possible, as this is affecting our club and its membership,” wrote the club’s secretary Jacques Johannes in a letter to the LFA.
