Mustangs Futsal is starting to pick the fruits of its labour.
This futsal entity has now claimed and owned its position as the frontrunner for this sporting code in the province.
Its recent effort, an impressive runner-up position during its first ever Top Six Championship tournament in Durban has definitely elevated its status and prestige as an up-and-coming sporting entity.
Despite Mustangs narrowly missing out by 2-3 against Orlando Pirates in the Final, it definitely stamped its authority on the tournament.Apart from the runner-up trophy and medals, it also bagged two additional individual awards.

Mustangs, under the leadership of Faried Davids and coach Jeffrey Swano, have definitely stamped its footprint on national level – especially with the much anticipated national league in the pipeline.
“The idea is to close the gap between the juniors and the seniors,” Davids explained. “Our aim is to ensure there is continuous talent coming through from the junior ranks.
“We have come a long way in the last seven years and there is so much more to achieve. We are on the right track and with more support we can definitely reap more rewards.”
Davids maintains that Futsal can contribute and co-exist with the 11-man format and that the relationship between these codes should be strengthened.
“For those who don’t know, google Futsal and see what it’s all about. It enhances your game for the 11-a-side game.
“It creates a well-rounded and more intelligent player.
What players don’t realise is that Futsal’s elements are commonly found in the 11-man game. The intimate play between players in certain pockets is exactly the same in both codes,” Davids added.
Meanwhile, Richard Fortune, the big boss of Futsal in the province, said he is satisfied with the growth of the sport thus far.
“We are moving upwards and onwards,” said Fortune. “This is very pleasing especially in light of us giving more young kids exposure to the sport and taking it to the communities.
