Cape Town Spurs defender Nazeer Allie (pictured) has attributed his illustrious career – which spans over two decades – to “discipline and desire.”
“Yah, hard work comes with all that, but discipline and desire… and to be professional, you know. Those are the key things that govern me. Always do the right things on and off the field. And very importantly, don’t forget to make time for Allah (God).
The veteran defender, who has won all the major trophies in the PSL during his career, is still going strong at 40 years old – and has no intention of slowing down. This is not just for his capabilities on the field but also his exemplary lifestyle off the field as well.
“I’m still enjoying my football very much,” Allie told No Bones with Jones. “As long as my body keeps going, I will do what I love. I’ve always been an individual who listens to my body. But if not, then I won’t do it anymore. But for now, I’m still going strong,” Allie added.
If offered another contract, the former Bafana Bafana defender will undoubtedly play a pivotal role with his experience for coach Nasief Morris, who was appointed following their relegation from the pro ranks of the First Division to the ABC Motsepe League’s Second Division last season
Morris has been hard at work for weeks now as the season kicks off at the end of September with the Nedbank Cup prelim rounds. Needless to say, the team from Parow will be desperate to get out of the amateur ranks as soon as possible.
Allie has gone the proverbial full circle at Ikamva after he joined the now defunct Ajax Cape Town back in 2002 as a junior before he got promoted to the senior side in 2005. Hence, it’s understandable that he has a soft spot for the red and white of Spurs.
“It’s important to remain humble and galvanised to collectively claw their way back to the pro set-up.
“The red and white is in my blood and I would like to try and win promotion with the club as they belong in the top flight,” Allie concluded.
