For the record, there is no bad blood between Hanover Park FC chairman Riedewaan Anthony (pictured) and his former coach Roger Fortune.
This revelation comes from the Hanover Park FC soccer boss himself after he confirmed to No Bones with Jones that they have “amicably” parted ways recently after a short ‘fling’ of three months.
“He is a good guy and I like him as a person and what he is doing for the community of Heideveld,” Anthony told No Bones with Jones.
“But on the financial side, it is a bit taxing on me. But we’re still friends and he came to our training last night to thank me and I said our channel lines are still open because we have the same challenges within our communities, you know,” Anthony added.
As expected some of the players Fortune brought along to Hanover Park, like Shamiel Azzur, Alphonso Roman, Stanton Weir and Shiraaj Davids, would also seek greener pastures and Anthony also confirmed this.
“Stigga (Weir) and Shiraaj have gone back to Santos,” Anthony pointed out as he wished Fortune everything but the best. The former Wanderers FC coach Thulani Sikweza will further oversee matters assisted by Hendrik Landman as his assistant. I didn’t want coaches to step on one another’s toes”.
Anthony’s blessings to Fortune were followed by another startling revelation that he’ll be stepping down as Vice President of the Cape Town Tygerberg LFA due to health reasons – a position he held since the early 2000’s.
Anthony explained: “I need to be honest with myself If I’m to overcome this. I need to concentrate and that is why I decided to take action and I’ve explained this to them in a zoom meeting,” Anthony concluded.
Meanwhile, Fortune reciprocated the same sentiments when he told our website. “I went to give them my well wishes for the remainder of the season and I hope they go on to win it as they are in a strong position to do so,” Fortune told No Bones with Jones.
“I will now channel my focus on Goal50 United as I was asked to assist them as it is important they retain their Third Division status. This club plays a huge role within the broader Heideveld community and for that I will assist and support them as it is all for the love of our community,” Fortune concluded.
This rather unexpected twist of events comes off the back of a very impressive showing by Fortune – with stats of seven games, six wins and one draw – that speaks for itself along with his ability to draw and recruit players.
