Rygersdal FC head coach Ashraf Calvert says he’ll be stepping into the ‘Lions Den’ when they square up against Safa Cape Town’s Third Division log leaders, Greenwood Athletic at the Solo Street on Tuesday evening.
Kick-off is at 19:30.
Needless to say, Calvert and troops will have their work cut out as Greenwood is the only unbeaten side after four matches – neither have they conceded a goal.
Rygersdal FC, a newbie to the league has also flexed their muscles early on already and got the tongues wagging with two wins from three matches.
This is why Calvert is licking his lips for this much anticipated fixture against his former club where he had a successful stint a couple of seasons ago.
“It’s a lion’s den that I partly built, so I’m looking forward to a good encounter,” Calvert stated to No Bones with Jones. “You know what they say, a puppy never forgets his home even if he is no longer there,” Calvert added.
Rygersdal will be heading into this game without four of their regulars who will be doing duty at the USSA Champs but ‘Assie,’ as Calvert is known, says regardless of this, he is still very optimistic that they can achieve a positive result.
“Look, we still have enough depth in the squad and besides, I trust our players and I have confidence in their ability. It’s also an opportunity for them to cement a regular place in the team,” Calvert concluded.
Meanwhile, his Greenwood counterpart and friend, Lionel Miller, emphasized that he has the greatest respect for Assie.
“He has taught me a lot pertaining to coaching and tactics but it’s actually not about us, its aabout be bigver picture – it’s just one team facing another in the league,” Miller told No Bones with Jones.
“We respect them as we would do with any other team in the league. Besides, it is our home game and everyone knows the importance of home games,” Miller concluded.
