‘Put your money where your mouth is,’ warns  Ikapa’s Petersen

It is true that for over a decade, Ikapa FC has stood the test of time in the Second Division structures of Safa Cape Town.

It is also true that money talks!

Therefore, it remains to be seen if Ikapa FC will hold onto its record as the longest-serving team in the ABC Motsepe League, or if it will be sold further down the line.

For now, it’s anyone’s guess after the club’s chairman and owner, Shaun Petersen (pictured), opened up on his change of heart with his beloved club.

“Look, I have already started assembling a squad and budgets for the new season,” Petersen conceded.

“Just this week we made a decision and there’s already time and money spent, and I’m really not prepared to…”

Petersen followed it up when he said it is also a matter of ‘putting your money where your mouth is.’

“If you really want to come on board it’s got to be very lucrative. Mind you, I’m also not that desperate to sell.

“People think they will be doing me a favour but the bottom line is that we are going to compete and give it a challenge. We have already identified where we can strengthen the squad,” Petersen added.

Another fact that Petersen is grappling with in order to really be competitive is to find the “perfect coach” that can possibly take his outfit to the next level.

Ikapa started like a house on fire last season under the mentorship of former Mamelodi Sundowns player Gareth Ncaca but unfortunately, they fell badly by the wayside in the second-round finishing seventh out of nine teams in their stream (A).

And finding a decent coach with the right attitude and knowledge of the league could prove to be just as challenging – interesting times nevertheless!
