Another under-16 tournament will be introduced on Safa Cape Town’s football calendar in the following weeks to add to the Bayview Under-16 and 4th Moment’s Super 16’s tournaments.
This time FN Rangers have signalled their intentions to help develop and nurture up-and-coming talent in the amateur ranks with a precursor to the prestigious Easter tournament, the Bayhill Premier Cup.
Some might question the introduction of another youth spectacle as it leaves (struggling) amateur clubs to prioritize their participation in these tournaments while others (with deeper pockets) will see it as another opportunity for their players.
Kyle Januarie, one of Rangers’ ABC Motsepe coaches, has also been tasked with spearheading the upcoming FN Rangers St. Agnes under 16 tournament.
The former Sea Point Swifts midfielder informed No Bones with Jones that this initiative was given birth to display the best amateur footballers at under 16 level.
“It is fair to say that this will be a build-up leading into the traditional Easter Weekend Bayhill Tournament which caters for under 19’s,” Januarie told our website. “We are planning to partner with teams throughout Cape Town and to grow the tournament in terms of numbers and demographics throughout South Africa. The tournament registration and launch dates will be communicated in due course,” the former Sea Point Swift midfielder added.
Our website understands that the prize money is still undisclosed at this stage and will be announced at the upcoming launch as Rangers are still awaiting confirmation from a sponsor.
The tournament will take place from 29 February to 3 March 2024 at the Royal Road Sports Complex in Maitland.
