Valhalla United head coach Muneer Brookes has pledged their allegiance to UWC Football Club.
Brookes revealed they’ll be the 12th man to help the Northerns LFA champion, UWC, get over the line at Safa Cape Town’s Third Division playoffs later this month.
Valhalla was in this position last season but was surprisingly relegated this campaign; however, should UWC win promotion at the playoffs, then Valhalla will retain their Super League status, hence the sudden ‘love’ shown to the students from Bellville.
“We have no other choice but to throw our weight and support behind Udubs at the playoffs,” Brookes conceded to No Bones with Jones. “They’re a good side and have a good chance and with our support, who knows, so fingers crossed,” Brookes added.
No one needs to remind Brookes that they have certainly fallen from grace this season, especially given the fact that they won the league title last season under the guidance of Brookes and Zain Alexander, who has since left the club for Diadora FC.
“Look, I also stepped down to give our up-and-coming coaches the opportunity and exposure, but that unfortunately didn’t go as planned. I also don’t want to make excuses, but the officials were killing us as well. We had quite a few youngsters and this also killed their spirit and love for the game.
“I mean, it was said before the season already that Valhalla Park and Kalksteenfontein will be relegated – and look what happened. Coach Fonna (Sherwin Sauls) and I took charge of the last four games, but it was already too late to save the team from relegation, you know,” Brookes concluded.
