Whether it was by design or just pure coincidence, the fact of the matter is that Rygate LFA could not have asked for a more fitting centenary celebration.
No Bones with Jones can confirm that this LFA based in Johnston Road, Rylands, received more or less a whopping R1,5 million from the National Lotteries Commission for social upliftment and the upgrading of the facility.
In ‘return’ the clubs affiliated to the Rygate LFA will have to brand the sponsors’ logo on their respective team kits. They were sent photos of different team kits and had to choose their colours.
This news was greeted with mixed emotions amongst clubs at the LFA and in some instances it caused division within certain clubs. Our website has also been informed that only a handful of clubs opted to decline the offer which was their prerogative for obvious reasons.
However, one cannot deny the hustle and strategizing of Rygate president Abdul Tajoodien who clearly has bigger plans in store for his LFA with a newly built full-sized astroturf.
This after Tajaoodien already had the lighting installed at the facility as well as the upgrade of the mini-sized astroturfs.
Rygate is set to hold its centenary celebration at the Civic Centre’s Mayoral Hall in Cape Town on Saturday, 7 December, and this development will surely dominate the narrative!
