Safa Cape Town’s General Secretary, Reyaad Joseph, has opted to waive his right of reply regarding the outstanding prize money for last season’s Third Division Top-8 winners.
No Bones with Jones has it with good authority that last season’s Third Division Champion Diadora FC, along with the other seven clubs, the runner-up Trinitarians, third-placed Greenwood Athletic, Cape Town City FC, Wanderers FC, Premier United, Matroosfontein and Jomos Power, has not been paid their bonuses for finishing amongst the top eight teams.
It’s believed an amount of R60 000 was made available for the top 8 finishes, with the winner walking away with a quarter of that as their reward for their efforts, while the remainder to be split up amongst the seven clubs.
However, with the new season commencing this coming weekend, the eight clubs are still in limbo and have to wait on the Mother Body as to when they feel the time is right to pay their dues.
Given the difficult financial situation that affects all, one must ask how fair is this towards the clubs in the Third Division that their Mother Body treats them with such contempt? How do the custodians of football in Cape Town give charity donations left right and centre when their own members have not been paid what is owed to them and are bleeding financially? Does charity not begin at home?
Meanwhile, our website can confirm that Safa Cape Town has called an urgent meeting scheduled for 19:00 at the Rygersdal FC Sports Complex in Rondebosch on Wednesday, 22 October.
This comes short on the heels of their Mancom meeting on Monday (20 October) – and a couple of days away from their Congress meeting on Sunday.
But now, why aren’t they showing the same commitment and efficiency on matters of urgency? Like the Wayne Weitz issue, which has been hanging over the region like a dark cloud for more than two months now.
Let’s be fair, it was Safa CT’s DC who exonerated and cleared Weitz of any financial mismanagement and wrongdoing, as it was clearly stated that he should be immediately reinstated and given a public apology.
Perhaps the Weitz saga will finally get some closure sooner rather than later.
Then there is also the Palestine issue, where a legal battle looms for the region. Not to mention Safa CT’s marriage with their technical sponsor, Masita, which is apparently on the rocks.
There are so many issues lurking over the head of the region, yet there seems to be no transparency and accountability on pertinent issues. Yet the region was very quick to stroke its own ego when it released a statement on Monday on its so-called successful hosting of the Coke Cup Finals over the weekend.
