Sandpit hosts the ‘Battle of the Spurs’ in Third Division humdinger

Silver Spurs will have their work cut out for them to preserve their 100 percent home record when they welcome Seaside Spurs to the ominous Johnson Road “Sandpit” on Friday (2 February).

Silver Spurs have thus far made the most of their dodgy pitch conditions at Rygate brushing aside teams like Crystal Palace (2-1), Camps Bay (1-0), Ocean View (5-0), Cape Town City (3-1) and Trinitarians (2-1) in the Hollywoodbets Third Division campaign.

However, Seaside have been making waves themselves in their debut season in the Third Division and is not to be taken lightly – their decent run of form and log position (8th) is testament  to that. They are extremely professionally run – on and off the field – and for an amateur club that is not too shabby

The coastal outfit have also taken points off the pacesetters and title favourites such as CT City (2-2), Vasco da Gama (0-0), Crystal Palace (2-2) and Matroosfontein (1-1) which underlines their capabilities and abilities.

Seaside have also made some astute signings during the transfer window which indicates that coach Gerald Stober and his troops are not in the league just to make up numbers.

Stober, who stated prior to the start of the campaign that his team’s growth is a process, has some experienced personnel at his disposal in the former PSL-duo, Franklin Cale and Diego Brown as well as Damian Basadien who will pose a big threat to Silver Spurs’ young and inexperienced squad as they are match winners.

Needless to say, that Seaside travels with a partisan crowd that will match the home faithful from a support perspective. This could make for a great spectacle from a neutral point of view and certainly a fixture not to be missed – perhaps Seaside could become the first team to leave the Sandpit with more than just sand in their eyes, who knows?
