Judging from the praises sung by Saxon Rovers head coach Robbie Pretorius about one of his rivals, Trinitarians FC, it’s pretty clear that he holds the Northern LFA club in high regard.
Some might see this as mind games and psychology at play, but Pretorius has explained why he respects Trinnies ahead of their Third Division away fixture on Saturday in Uitsig.
Pretorius, alluding to the fact that Trinnies are last season’s runners-up and current Nedbank Cup regional champions, speaks of his admiration for head coach Charles Jaftha and his team.
“Trinnies will always be contenders as they possess lovely talent within Uitsig and surrounding areas,” Pretorius stated to No Bones with Jones. “Hopefully it will be a good game of football… knowing them, it will be. The Uitsig area is a nice place to be at.
“Good people are holding the place and club together and they have some of the best administrators within the club. From outside, it might seem intimidating, but that is a family club,” he added.
Saxons travel to Uitsig as the new log leader in Safa Cape Town’s Third Division after Greenwood Athletic were knocked off their perch by Rygersdal FC on Tuesday evening in Retreat.
The Cape Town Tygerberg side is one of two clubs, along with Premier United, yet to lose a match thus far, with four matches played, three wins, one draw, 15 goals scored, four conceded. Pretorius has heeded that they are not getting ahead of themselves, as there is still a long way to go and lots to do.
“Look, I’m not too concerned with the log for now,” the Saxon-mentor further added. “It just helps with planning the way forward, but we are just happy to have points on the board. You can go from unbeaten to midtable in the blink of an eye, and therefore we need to be humble and grounded.
“We have a few improvements in, but most of the early success is due to the hard work in the background from the players and coaches. Also, the support of the management also contributes. So, it has been a collective effort thus far,” Pretorius concluded.
