Third Division wrap: Saxons’ superiority surges on in Graveyard league after stupendous showing against struggling YMO

There is just no stopping the Third Division log Saxon Rovers after yet another convincing performance this weekend against relegation-threatened YMO FC.

A brace from Zach Moses (pictured) and one each from Elzade Paulse and Safsanco Olkers handed coach Robbie Pretorius’ men a comfortable 4-1 over the struggling home side at the Downberg Road Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon.

Saxons remain six points clear over second-placed Rygersdal, who have a tricky home fixture against Greenwood Athletic at the Meadows on Tuesday and coach Ashraf Calvert is well aware there is no room for error at all.

Not to mention coach Byron Cottle’s young Cape Town City who continues to show their mettle with a great 3-2 win away from home at the Downberg Sports Complex in Hanover Park to keep the pressure on Rygersdal.

The two newbies to the league, Young Pirates and Ashford Athletic, who occupies the fourth and fifth positions respectively, are keeping up their impressive performances despite the former dropping points during a 2-2 draw against Silver Spurs on Friday.

Ashford, on the other hand, made light work of Matroosfontein FC during a 4-1 victory at the Bridge in Heathfield to stay in the hunt.

Meanwhile, the dog fight at the bottom end of the table looks a lot more vicious and congested. Apart from Good Hope FC, who are already doomed, positions 10th to 17th can still find themselves in a sticky situation as things are too close to call with about 16 matches to go. There are three humdingers scheduled for Tuesday (17 March) before the league breaks for the weekend.
