Time for Cape Town to show support for Bafana Bafana

Let’s face it, talk is cheap!

And from a football perspective there has never been a more ideal time than now to turn this notion on its head as Bafana Bafana make a long-awaited and welcome return to the Mother City when they face South Sudan in a Afcon qualifier on 19 November in the Cape Town Stadium.

In fact, this is seriously a huge thing not only for the football public but for South Africans living in Cape Town in general. Now is the time to put your money where your mouth is and come and support the national football team.

The nay-sayers will argue that Bafana Bafana has been playing second fiddle to lesser African countries on the African continent but according to some of the countries football legends like Farouk Abrahams (pictured third from left), the national team’s resurgence of late has given coach Hugo Broos’ side a “better identity” resulting in a lot more respect and credibility from the rest of the very critical SA football public.

Abrahams, along with Safa CT president and vice-president of Safa National, Bennett Bailey, Provincial Minister for Sport and Recreation Ricardo Mckenzie as well as Thabo Thutu, Director of Sport and Recreation, briefed the media at the Athlone Stadium on Monday evening with the build-up to this Afcon qualifier.

“This Broos guy has really done a good job, no, an excellent job,” Abrahams, a former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper coach, stated. “Because he doesn’t take nonsense, even from the media, and sometimes it sounds offside but he always explains what he meant

“With the Temba Zwane issue I lifted my hat to him for apologizing. He realised that he was wrong and later included Zwane in his plans. The player was the mainstay when he came back and it takes a big man to do that so kudos to him for doing that,” Abrahams added

Meanwhile, Mckenzie (second from left) has urged the football fraternity and sport lovers in general to vote with their bums on seats.

“R60 is what, two beers and cheaper than a gatsby, so leave that and go and buy your ticket to support your country, ” Mckenzie jokingly stated.

The Cape soccer boss Bailey (pictured left) has summed it up when he vehemently stated: “We have landed!”

“This is the time now to make a mark and there is no time to talk about anything else except the game,” Bailey reminded everybody. “Now is the time to ‘Haal uit en wys’ (Show what you’re made of),” Bailey concluded.
