Wynberg St Johns back in Third Division – takes over Antalyaspor club

In a bizarre twist of events, Wynberg St. Johns FC (WSJ) is back in the Third Division of Safa Cape Town after an absence of almost two decades.

A well-placed source in the club confirmed this news after WSJ acquired Antalyaspor JPM Cape Town’s franchise.

“The deal with Edgemead FC fell through the mat and we jumped on it,” the source said.

“It happened so quickly, and we had to grab it, you know,” the source added.

WSJ also had the option to incorporate the youth structure into their club, and they obliged with the hope of becoming a force to be reckoned with.

“We realized that we develop our youth only to lose them to other clubs, so we acquired the franchise,” the source added.

This is a real blow for Edgemead but still fantastic news from a Cape Town Tygerberg perspective, with crunching derbies still on the cards.
