The rise of Grassy Park United FC coach, Curtly Daniels, is just as impressive as the youngsters he is currently bringing through the ranks.
Let’s not forget GP United’s under18 team are the current Coke Cup champs, after their well-deserved victory in the final over the more fancied Cape Town Spurs Academy.
Players such as the captain Jody Claasen, Tyreez Davidson, Ryan Hamdulay, Tyres Heynes, Imaan January and Daniel Swain, are some of the young talents nurtured within the club and are now starting to flourish.
It was no wonder that Daniels has drafted most of these young talents from the Bayhill Cup-winning team to his Second Division squad for the upcoming season.
Daniels, along with coach Rezaan Jacobs, has surely found the right formula for these youngsters who are eager to impress and it’s probably just a matter of time before they reach their full potential.
These local coaches surely deserve the respect and support to reach newer heights with their talented players.
In fact, some of these players such as Claasen already got game time last season and they definitely did not disappoint.
Daniels, who led the team to a respectable fourth place in their stream (A) which consisted of championship heavyweights such as Zizwe United, is understandably upbeat for the season which kicks off in just under two months.
Daniels said he is confident that his newly promoted youngsters will be able to hold their own.
“It will be about 90 percent of our Bayhill team that has gotten a well-deserved breakthrough and reward after showing the entire Western Cape their talent and ability,” Daniels explained.
“We also have a talented 15-year-old that is going to be called up to the ABC squad. (He is) Somebody that has a huge future in football.
“Then we have another youngster who was the u/16’s top goal scorer of the Bayview tournament. He has been performing consistently well and will get a call-up to the ABC team as well,” Daniels concluded.
