Coaches competing in Safa Cape Town’s Second Division have been left frustrated regarding the uncertainty over this season’s league format and structure.
Needless to say the debate over whether the league should be structured into one or two streams, rages on.
However, it is not so much the debate on this topic that has left them unimpressed, but rather the fact that there are no decisive plans with the new season less than two months away.
Meanwhile, most of the other provinces have in the interim already decided on how their respective leagues will be structured.
The Northern Cape for example already made its decision on July 20th when they confirmed to all their participating clubs that the league is split into two streams.
In Kwazulu/Natal it has also been confirmed that clubs will also be split into two streams. So too have Free State and Jo’burg already confirmed their decision two weeks ago
However, in the Mother City coaches are left in the dark saying all they require is clarity on the situation to prepare accordingly.
“Look, my concern is not so much the one or two streams, but rather when the announcement will be made,” said Arreshaat Daniels, coach of FN Rangers.
“I mean, we need to prepare and plan accordingly for the season ahead.”
Daniels’ counterpart from Clarewood JPM FC, Dylan Dean, said they have not received any correspondence on the start of the new campaign.
Deane reckons that these decisions could have been taken at the end of last season already.
“Honestly, it’s very frustrating going blind into something,” Dean stated.
“What I can tell you is that we cannot do and plan for a proper preseason. You tell me, how can we plan with no clear date or communication? Some clubs are full- time and how do we look after our players.”
Young Bafana’s new coach, Carlos Manuel, meanwhile added that he remains focussed at his new task at hand despite the uncertainty looming.
“Yes, I agree. It is frustrating. In terms of the ideal world where you would prepare for eight weeks of pre-season but then you are left with uncertainty on certain decisions: Should we give our players a week off or not?
Look, it is clearly not suitable, but the reality is that we cannot control these things. What I can control is what is happening at Young Bafana and the team. But, yes, we can learn from other provinces,” the new Bafana mentor added.
The chairperson of Safa Western Cape, Tankiso Modipa, has reiterated that they cannot confirm any news at this stage.
“We still need to meet with the clubs,” Modipa stated. “Only then a decision will be taken.”
