‘Saatjie’ ready to unleash top-guns in Motsepe League

If you thought FN Rangers is a powerhouse and a force to be reckoned with in the ABC Motsepe League, then their fans should brace themselves for bigger and better things to come for the 2023/24 campaign.

For the simple reason that Rangers have added another goal poacher in Glen Hahn, a former Maties FC and Stellenbosch FC striker.

Our website reported weeks ago that Daniels had snapped up the services of one of the deadliest strikers within the amateur ranks in the form of Darren ‘Billy’ Omaticus.

The former Third Division striker with Jamestown United, now playing LFA football at Rygersdal (to keep fit), was high in demand – he eventually decided to commit to Rangers.

With these two potent attackers in Rangers’ arsenal Daniels is surely expecting an improvement from last year’s tally where they could only manage 30 goals in 16 games.

Our website can confirm that Omaticus and Hahn will now form part of a new-look attack for coach Arreshaat Daniels’ Rangers – this should also send shivers down the spine of their rivals.

It’s quite evident that Daniels, or Saatjie as he is affectionately known, is leaving nothing for chance after his side fell short on a couple of occasions at the last hurdle due to a lack of firepower on attack.

Last season the Maitland-outfit fell by the wayside during the business end after a solid start to the campaign but could only average two goals per game – and given their quality and talent, it was simply not good enough by their standards.

Prior to that Rangers lost out on penalties to rivals Zizwe United in the Western Cape playoff final.

This forced Daniels to address their shortcomings on attack with the capture of Omaticus and Hahn. The duo, along with the workhorse Lessandro De Sousa, will spearhead Rangers’ attack in their quest for more goals this upcoming season.

Rangers now have ample depth with the live wire Giovanni Philander which adds another dimension with his pace and trickery on either the left or right wing.

“That was one of the areas of concern where we fell short,” Daniels conceded. “So, I’m hoping our challenges in the striker department will be solved.

“Look, nothing (in life or football) is guaranteed but we are hopeful things will improve and that we can score more goals,” Daniels added.

“This goalscoring is also a massive problem in the country. You don’t have to look further than our highest league, the PSL where the top goalscorer ends up with eight goals and they call him prolific! Really?” Daniels indicated.

Our website also understands that Taariq George’s decision to focus on his work career has played Daniels’ favour as it opened up the door for Hahn as a like for like striker.

Hahn, a former product of Maties FC, did not enjoy a happy spell at the PSL club, Stellenbosch FC. Daniels could just be the perfect individual to unlock Hahn’s goal-scoring ability and full potential.

Should Rangers’ newbies like Omaticus and Hahn hit the ground running from the outset, then surely this could be Rangers’ season where they go all the way.
