A fairytale season culminated in a magical ending when The Magic Ladies hosted their year-end function at the Western Province Cricket Club in Rondebosch on Tuesday evening.
Despite ending up as runners-up in both the Sasol League and the Coke Cup, coach George Dearnaley’s newbies have certainly done themselves proud – and stamped their authority on women’s football.
Dearnaley explains: “An incredible first season for a new girl-only club. The development team won 21 out of 21 league & cup games – LFA league & cup champions!
“And the Sasol team only lost 2 league games and the Coke Cup Final! We also had our first player called up to the Banyana Banyana squad. Our aim is to develop more players for the SA National teams and show the country the quality of players that are being developed in Cape Town,” Dearnaley added.
Meanwhile, the team manager, Desiree da Silva, said it was a real celebration of the ladies’ achievement.
“We reflected on individual and collective achievements this past season,” said Da Silva. “Our ladies did so well and we just really showed our appreciation for their commitment”.
One can only imagine the massive onslaught that awaits their rivals next season. Therefore, it was a fitting end for a stellar debut season when their hard work and efforts were rewarded.
The Magic Ladies Program purchased the Milano Ladies Franchise last year and since then never looked back.
