Inter Africa has cashed in on Batalion FC’s financial woes after they acquired its ABC Motsepe Second Division status.
Needless to say, the season started so badly for Batalions, that they had to default their first game of the season for various reasons.
Inter Africa’s boss Mogsien Rauff has confirmed the news to No Bones with Jones adding it will create a fantastic opportunity for talent in the Mother City.
“We want to attract the best young talent, not just in Cape Town but beyond its borders as well,” Rauff explained to our website. “We have the numbers already but we want to make our pool bigger to ensure that talented youngsters have an outlet and get an opportunity to showcase their talent. We are looking at attracting the best quality youngsters out there.
“We are training at Oaklands High on Sunday (19 November) and if there is any player(s) out there that is not affiliated with a team, feel free to join and show off your talent so that we can sign everyone by Monday.”
Rauff has assured that the academy, based in Kenilworth, has a strong (financial) backing and is certainly no fly by night.
“There are some exciting long-term plans in the pipeline but that is a discussion for another day,” Rauff further added. “What we can offer our players is a holistic approach where education plays an integral part of their development. They might not become professional footballers, but they will definitely be exemplary human beings and that is success in its own right.”
No Bones with Jones can also confirm that the former Cape Town Spurs pro player Theo Hempe will be at the helm of the coaching.
As per Safa rules Inter Africa has to still play under the banner of Batalions for this season before the name change can come into effect.
“We will also play our home games in Paarl for now,” Rauff further added. “Our head coach, Theo Hempe, will ensure that we have the quality and depth to compete against the very best in this league,” Rauff concluded.
