Mini needs support to the max, says Wanderers’ Gum

Wanderers FC’s new head coach Thembani Mini says he is hoping to incorporate and align his vision and objectives with that of his newfound Third Division Club

“That is my aim in order to achieve maximum growth and success with the club,” Mini told No Bones with Jones. “I want to win games, but that depends on the personnel I assemble for the squad. The work ethic and energy application of the players, along with a solid structure, will form the basis of a competitive and well-balanced squad.”

Despite being well travelled and having been around the block with clubs like Police FC and Royal Swallows to name a few, the 38-year-old mentor admitted that he is quite excited about his new project at the Langa-based Third Division outfit.

“I am surrounded by proper footballing brains if you understand what I mean,” the former Stellenbosch City and Goal50 United coach further explained. “The club is very ambitious and has run big projects such as the Engen tournament for the last couple of years.

“That tells you the capacity and appetite they have for any undertaking. This is so positive and excites me to know you’ll have the freedom and support to express yourself as a coach. I mean, last week’s quick fix which led to the 2-2 draw (against Seaside Spurs away) is an indication of the character that exists in the squad. This tells me there are lots of possibilities to fight and challenge for something in the future,” he added.

Wanderers’ chairman Eric Gum officially unveiled ‘Thera’ as Mino is affectionately known, as their new coach for this season with the “potential for a few more”.

Gum has urged the Wanderers faithful to support Mini in his new role.

“Thembani comes with a wealth of experience having coached at top level for a number of teams,” said Gum. “His record as a mentor and a leader has spoken for him miles away. We wish him all the best in his new journey and ask the well-wishers to give him their full support as he captains the ship of this very important club – welcome coach,” Gum concluded.
