Spurs’ hierarchy has to show balls regarding ‘two coach approach’

Without stirring the pot, but maybe Silver Spurs should consider sticking to one coach on a permanent basis – especially after one of their co-coaches Mario Tito bagged their first haul of six points during their doubleheader over the weekend.

Tito went solo due to the fact that his co-coach Franklyn Davies had other duties to attend to.

In Davies’ absence, Tito witnessed his young team responding with great aplomb after they saw off Camps Bay FC by 1-0 in Manenberg on Saturday and followed it up with an away victory of 4-1 against Goa50 United a day later in Heideveld.

The Silvertown-based club subsequently moved up into the third position – two points off the log leader Cape Town City.

This begs the question, who will select the team when Davies returns for the next (away) fixture against Saxon Rovers on Saturday? Will Tito be allowed to continue with the starting line-up who did the job over the weekend?

Or will it be Davies’ turn to run the show given the fact that he was not on the touchline over the weekend? Bear in mind both coaches are obviously two different personalities and view football differently using different approaches.

One cannot help but wonder if the compromises that these two coaches need to make to ‘accommodate’ each other are really in the best interest of the club and their prospects. Remember it is still early days and it is understandable that the mood is still relaxed.

But what if things start going pear-shaped as the season progresses as it will as all teams go through a purple patch some time or the other during the season.

And who will take the flack and full responsibility? Our website has reported in the past that this decision could still prove to blow up in the face of Spurs’ management.

For now, things are still hunky dory and Spurs’ hierarchy has to show some balls sooner rather than later to make a brave call on who should have the last say when it comes to their Third Division outfit!
