It’s for the love of the game – and justice, that Ubuntu Spartans have fought tooth and nail against their rivals from Central Karoo, Barcelona FC.
This is the belief of Spartans’ manager Erbano Moloy following their victory in the boardroom over Barcelona FC to represent their Central Karoo region at the Hollywoodbegts Third Division Playoffs in Plettenberg Bay which started on Saturday.
The two Central Karoo clubs were at loggerheads for some time with their dispute even threatening to derail the playoffs. Luckily for the broader perspective sanity prevailed and the playoffs could go ahead with the full complement of teams.
Moloy said they were always confident that the justice would reign supreme.
“The big challenge for us is that we weren’t as prepared as we wanted to be but we will make the best out of the situation,” Moloy told No Bones with Jones. “We are just proud to represent the region albeit in such controversial circumstances, you know. But hey, the players are fired up and ready to give it their best shot.”
Spartans play Bazuka United from the Overberg in their first game at 14:00 on Saturday followed by Mbekweni Sundowns from the Cape Winelands on Sunday (09:00) who drew 0-0 in their opening match on Saturday.
