Dien’s double at Seaside brings rhythm back to Pequeno’s Vasco… expects backlash from Junction

Even when Vasco da Gama’s striker fires blanks, they still have enough quality to overcome any obstacle thrown their way.

This was again proven when they ran out comfortable 3-0 winners away to Seaside Spurs in Ocean View in treacherous windy conditions, yet they made it look so easy – and these are ominous signs for their ABC Motsepe League rivals!

However, coach Andrew Pequeno thinks that the match was definitely not a stroll in the park against a tough Seaside in front of their home fans.

“The fact we stuck it out in tough conditions and we took our chances is very gratifying,” Pequeno pointed out to No Bones with Jones. “We adapted quickly to the wind and Astroturf and the boys executed the game plan very well,” he added.

A brace from their holding midfielder Tauriq Dien – his third of the season – and another from Michel Phigeland ensured that Vasco continued their winning ways in Stream A, which is loaded with quality sides and therefore more challenging.

According to Vasco’s astute mentor, the players know their roles and play with their hearts.
“This stream is difficult enough to pick up points away like gold dust,” Pequeno further stated.
“Our defence was better than the previous week against Young Bafana and I feel we are now getting back into our rhythm from last season.”

Vasco welcomes Junction Rovers to Parow Park for their next fixture, which could pose another challenge for Pequeno and his troops after the Heideveld-based side succumbed to a 2-4 defeat to FN Rangers on home soil.

Pequeno explained: “They are a tough team to beat, hey. They beat Hanover Park away in their first game which shows their quality and fight.

“So, we know it will be a tough encounter as they are always very competitive. Last season both games were won by us by a single goal margin – a 1 goal… a1-0 away and 2-1 at home,” Pequeno concluded.
